Robina’s population growing faster than Gold Coast

Robina’s population growing faster than Gold Coast

The central-city population growth powerhouse

South East Queensland and Gold Coast’s population growth may be ahead of the rest of the country as a whole, but Robina is growing even faster than both.

With its position at the geographic and economic heart of the Gold Coast, Robina’s population is rising at more than double the rate of the rest of the city.

The Gold Coast’s popularity is booming with the estimated resident population increasing by 2.1% per annum over the two-year period from 2016-18.

As people take advantage of its unrivalled location, amenities and lifestyle benefits, Robina’s community is expanding much faster than the city as a whole, with 4.6% per annum growth for the same 2-year period.

The area’s broad employment opportunities and strong transport links have created a hub desirable to professionals, families and retirees.

Robina is becoming an education and innovation centre. Its world-class academic facilities are attracting people from around the world.

Stunning parklands and waterways, a wealth of popular retail centres and state-of-the-art sports facilities make it easy to see why Robina is such an alluring place to live.

Then there is the $15m Robina City Parklands project, which City of Gold Coast has recently commenced. The Gold Coast’s own ‘Central Park’ is touted as one of the world’s most attractive and diverse urban green spaces.

The ongoing developments, coupled with this wave of newcomers to the area, is having a direct impact.

The local property market is predicted to continue to grow as the demand creates an upward trend in prices.

Robina is  growing faster than the national average

Australia’s population increase was 1.6% for 2017-18. In the Gold Coast it was 2.6%. For Robina alone, the community grew by 3.3% in the 12 months to June 30, 2018. With Robina poised at the heart of Queensland’s second largest city – and Australia’s sixth –  residents moving from other areas within Australia make up the largest share of people moving to Robina.

The national average for people moving within Australia is 48%, in Robina it is 52%.

Just under a third, 32% of Australia’s population growth, comes from migrants moving here from other countries, and it is similar at 31% for Robina, with the balance of growth being natural increase.

A total of 3,169 new residents have arrived in Robina over the last five years. Its five-year growth rate is 2.7% per annum.

That means Robina is proving to be a steady growth centre, growing at a faster rate than the Gold Coast (1.9% pa), and Queensland (1.5% pa), over the medium term.

ABS population estimates revealed the information in July.
